Ten died, six were injured, and six are still missing when Typhoon Egay battered Northern Luzon on July 26 to 27. Reports from various sources also stated close to 50,000 households representing close to 190,000 individuals in the Cordillera were affected by the typhoon that caused flooding and landslides in the region. Benguet recorded six deaths and four injured.

15 bahay, barangay hall sa Bakun, Benguet apektado ng landslide


Nasa 17 pamilya ang nawalan ng bahay sa pagguho ng lupa sa Barangay Poblacion sa bayan ng Bakun, Benguet bunsod ng masamang panahong dala ng Bagyong Maring. 2 workers die in Banaue landslide


BANAUE, Ifugao � Two workers died when a landslide buried their house Monday morning, March 22 at Sitio Talop, Kinakin, Banaue, Ifugao. The remains of two workers were retrieved from what was once a house which was decimated by a landslide that happened Monday morning, March 22 in Banaue, Ifugao. (Zaldy Comanda) Maj. Michael Dangilan, chief of police of the municipality, said the victims, Emiliano H. Lupais and Ernesto Cirais, were sleeping when the landslide occurred at Sitio Talop, Kinakin, Banaue, Ifugao. The incident was reported to the Banaue Municipal Police Station at about at 1:45 a.m. Residents immediately conducted a search-and-rescue operation. 5 dead in Banaue slide, 6 missing; roads closed


BANAUE, Ifugao -- Five persons were confirmed dead due to Typhoon Ulysses Thursday in Cordillera as the regional Dept. of Public Works and Highways reported five roads in three provinces were closed to traffic as of press time even as crewmen were working to clear and open these to traffic. In Banaue, five persons were found dead while six were missing when landslide hit and wiped out a concrete bunkhouse in Sumigar, Viewpoint in the tourist town on Thursday, Nov. 12. Among those missing were two engineers of the Ifugao 2nd District Engineering Office and their crew One survivor was in stable condition. They sought shelter in the concrete bunkhouse of a contractor in the area. Six other people also took refuge in the bunkhouse to wait out the rain. Mogol said at about 5 p.m. Thursday, a bigger landslide occurred and wiped out the bunkhouse. The survivor said six others were missing. The bodies were retrieved Friday by rescuers composed of town police, 54thInfantry Battalion personnel and local folks. Other reports said 12 persons were in the bunkhouse it got hit by landslide. They included a father and his child, six workers of the DPWH, three others and a driver of a heavy equipment firm. 5 dead as landslide sends house crashing into Banaue ravine


Five person were killed, while six others were missing, after a two-storey house built on the shoulder of the road in SItio Nabitu, Viewpoint in Banaue, Ifugao collapsed into a ravine on Thursday, November 12. Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-Cordillera) Director Brig. Gen. R�win Pagkalinawan said a landslide apparently hit the house, sending it crashing into the 100-meter ravine Thursday night. He said rescuers and volunteers were able to retrieve five bodies Friday morning. Pagkalinawan said the Banaue Municipal Police Station identified the bodies they recovered as Joel Chur-ig, a driver of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Lance Bruce Guinyang, 3; Dante Boqueng, Johnny Cabigat Duccog, and Jose P. Piog, 71. Pagkalinawan said James Harold Guinyang, who was the first to be rescued after the incident, suffered injuries, and was brought to the Good News Clinic and Hospital for treatment. Guinyang said there were about 12 persons inside the house owned by a Bresler Tucdaan when the incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. He added that he was having coffee with 11 others when the landslide occurred. He named those who were with him when tragedy struck as Lance Bruce Guinyang, Jacob Guinyang, Johnny Duccog, Joshua Culhi, John Pigoh, Jose Piog, Laber Piog, a certain Dante, two or three engineers from the DPWH and an unidentified woman. Apayao Board Member, cop die in landslide


KABUGAO, Apayao � A provincial boardmember and a personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) died after they were hit by a landslide triggered by the continuous rains at barangay Dibagat, here, Thursday evening. Police authorities identified the victims as Board Member Tolentino Mangalao and Cpl. Rommel Gumidam, both residents of Dibagat, Kabugao, Apayao. Initial police investigation showed that because of the series of landslides leading to their respective homes as a result of the continuous rains that prevailed in the province over the past several days, the victims opted to take a temporary shelter inside a house in the place of incident.

Itogon remembers TD 'Ompong'

1 dead, 1 hurt after landslide in Benguet


A senior citizen was killed and her 10-year-old grandchild was hurt after a landslide in Buguias, Benguet on Sunday, according to a report of Mark Makalalad on Dobol B sa News TV on Monday. Benguet Provincial Police Office head Police Colonel Lyndon Mencio identified the victim as Gloria Rolando Langawan, 72. Heavy rains on Sunday night softened the soil leading to the landslide in Barangay Bangao around 11 p.m, Mencio said. The child was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Natonin landslide: 18 bodies recovered, 10 still missing � mayor


Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 5) � Authorities reported that 18 bodies have been retrieved from Natonin, Mountain Province where a landslide hit a Department of Public Works and Highways building in Barangay Banawel last week. Natonin Mayor Mateo Chiyawan confirmed another body was retrieved during rescue operations, bringing the total number to 18. Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Cordillera Regional Director Ruben Carandang said retrieval operations will continue until Friday, upon the agency's recommendation. Mayor Chiyawan initially instructed operations to end on Monday. "Based on my assessment and the support that [is] coming from Region 2 particularly, we extended it until Friday so that we will be able to use the different groups that are coming in here and with their other special equipment being used [for] retrieval," Carandang said. The search, rescue and retrieval operations now go as far as Sifu River in the neighboring town, Paracelis.

Benguet landslides kill 3


CAMP DANGWA, Benguet � A married couple and a bill collector were killed while four others were injured following separate landslide incidents brought by heavy rains in Kibungan and Buguias in Benguet, according to a belated report from Benguet Provincial Police Office. The Kibungan Municipal Police Station identified the couple as Florentino Ligaten and his wife Cristina, of Tagpaya, Madaymen, Kibungan, Benguet who died after their house was buried following a landslide at 6 a.m. Saturday. Clifford Ligaten, the couple�s son, was rescued by neighbors and was rushed to Atok District Hospital. He is now in stable condition. The other fatality in Buguias was identified as Christian Asiong Babsa-ay, a 27-year-old telecom bill collector, and resident of Purok 3 Irisan, Baguio City. According to reports, Babsa-ay was travelling to Baguio on board his motorcycle when he was hit and thrown off the highway by a huge mudslide that came down from the mountain along Halsema Highway, Km 73, Amgalueygey, Buguias, Benguet at 5 p.m. Saturday. Babsa-ay died from severe head injuries while being brought to Louis Hora Regional Memorial Hospital in Abatan, Bauko, Mt. Province. The mudslide also Sanidad Bacquian Alawas, a 57-year-old storekeeper, Erkin Galino Onio, 31, a resident of Payeo, Besao, Mountain Province, and Winnie Joy Lad-Ey Onio, 29, social worker, and resident of Pusel, Amgaleyguey, Bugiuas, Benguet. 2 more bodies retrieved from Benguet landslides


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet�The remains of two miners were recovered by a team of volunteers digging through mud and rocks in a landslide-hit area in Mankayan, Benguet province, on Monday, police said. The bodies of Rocky Mangrubang, 19, a native of Aurora province, and Ronald Paul Angel, 19, a resident of Mankayan, were recovered at 10 a.m. in Barangay Taneg, said Insp. Joyce Ann Dayag, information officer of the Benguet police office. She said volunteers composed of miners, residents, soldiers and policemen were still looking for six people out of 16 miners and their family members who took shelter in a mining camp in Sitio Elizabeth. The camp was buried by a landslide triggered by heavy rain dumped by Typhoon �Ineng� on Aug. 22. Benguet Gov. Nestor Fongwan said the landslide hit a nearby mountain slope, and not the slope where the camp had been put up. �The loose rocks and mud fell toward the slopes of the camp. It was so sudden. The eroded area was heavily vegetated so our experts tell us it was triggered by oversaturation from the rains,�� Fongwan said during a meeting last week of the Benguet Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The bodies recovered on Monday raised to 19 the typhoon�s death toll in Benguet, 15 of whom died in Mankayan town. BAGUIO CITY � As typhoon Pepeng pounded Northern Luzon, the whole sitio of Bulala, Kayan east, Tadian Mountain Province was buried by a landslide on Thursday, October 8, where rescuers retrieved 38 victims on Saturday, 10 remain missing, and three injured. mutya2009_1011Another residential area in nearby Bunga village of the same town was covered too by a rampaging landslide on Thursday causing the death of three family members while two survived the said landslide. Sitio Bulala was buried when a mountain above the village collapsed during strong rains at 6 P.M. that fateful day. Twelve corpse were retrieved on Thursday and Friday and another 26 on Saturday. Those retrieved on Thursday were identified as Lydia Daweg, her daughter Cyria, and four children of Cyria, Barangay Officials told Nordis directly from the area. At past noon Friday, October 9, rescuers retrieved the corpses of Betty Trinidad, Reynaldo Trinidad Sr., Kate and Baby Gao-ay, Victorino Albing, and Felix Laging. The 26 retrieved on Saturday were still unidentified, sources said. In a rescue by barangay officials and residents of Kayan East, they evacuated the rest of families in Kayan West after they made a head count from the villages. Sources said that there are 32 households in Sitio Bulala where 18 houses were totally damaged while five houses were partially damaged. Bulala villagers are engaged in rice and vegetable farming. The rescue resumed on the morning of Friday, October 9, after they suspended it midnight of Thursday due to continues rains and mud flow in Sitio Bulala. The injured residents of Sitio Bulala, which were brought to the Luis Hora General Hospital in Bauko, were identified as Ms. Ramos, Enlina and Jonjon Trinidad. Philippines: Typhoon Emong kills 9, injures 14 in Ifugao


Kiangan, Ifugao (8 May) -- Nine people were buried alive in two different landslides in Barangay Poblacion here while two others were also killed by a landslide in the municipality of Hingyon as strong rains hit the province in the eve of May 7 at the height of typhoon Emong. The house of Valentin Daang in Sitio Dumanayan, Barangay Poblacion was buried by landslide killing four of his children namely Ayra, 15, Marife, 13, Vency, 10 and Samuel 23. Daang and his wife Daisy, were also wounded during the incident and were rushed to the Rural Health Center here for treatment. Other members of the family, Danny and Cheche were rushed to the Ifugao General Hospital. Johny Guinid, a neighbor said due to heavy downpour and power blackout, it was very hard for them to rescue the victims. Two houses in Sito Lynda, Poblacion were also buried with mud resulting to the death of Olivia Guay,42, Mercy Guay, 10, Isco Guay Jr., 9, Rosita Tinol, 26, a teacher and her baby boy who was barely 6 days old. In the municipality of Hingyon, two unidentified victims were also buried alive. Kiangan Vice Mayor Lito Dulinayan said that the municipal government will assist the families of the victims by providing decent coffins for the dead and other government assistance. Typhoons leave 3 dead; landslide isolates village


Three persons in Baguio and Abra were killed while two areas with more than 3,000 population were isolated as continued rains triggered by typhoons Chedeng and Dodong hit the Cordilleras last week. Vicente Tomazar, chief of the Office of Civil Defense for the Cordillera, said the victims were on board the jeepney, with license plate AYC-843, and on their way to Natonin town proper when the accident happened at sitio Manangor, Tonglayan. Tomazar said jeepney driver, Jose Beguiled Jr., parked the vehicle when they spotted boulders lying on the highway. The rocks had earlier fallen from the adjacent mountain.

Landslides displace 30 families in Benguet


Huge landslides triggered by a series of typhoons have displaced about 30 families in Kibungan, Benguet, with authorities warning of a bigger catastrophe in view of cracks appearing in the mountainside atop the affected area. No one was hurt or killed but most of the villagers' houses were destroyed. some totally. Several rice- fields were also affected. A huge landslide caused by the heavy rains of typhoons Reming and Senyang in Tuyangan, Kabugao, Apayao at around 4 p.m. last Nov. 8, resulted to the death of four persons, injury of five others. Five others remain missing.

Giant slide in Mankayan


Loose soil compounded by heavy rains for the last several days resulted to a slide that wiped out a 14 hectare mountainside in Colalo, Mankayan, Benguet last Monday. Lawyer Agapito Bolislis, LCMC vice president for interview, denied earlier reports that the tailings pond of the mining company below Colalo has developed leaks with the claim that the pond is firm and stable.

Two die as Ampucao mountain collapses


ITOGON, Benguet Two persons died and two wounded when a mountain in sitio Dontog, Ampucao, this town, collapsed a day before typhoon Maring set in last week. With this incident, Rodrigo Fuentes, Director of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Cordillera Administrative region (DENR CAR), was requested by a non-government organization through a press release statement to "immediately suspend the operations of the Benguet Corporation in the area until such time that a thorough investigation is made on its mining operations.

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet Forty one persons died while eight others were reported missing following the two-day wrath of killer typhoon Goring before it exited to the south China sea. Typhoon death toll now 34; 364 families are evacuated


The death toll in the wake of typhoon "Gading" in Baguio and Bengaet rose to 34 as of yesterday afternoon with eight reported casualties in the city and 26 in the province. BAGUIO CITY - Mayor Ernesto H. Bueno last week charged that personnel from the city engineer's office and the contractors concerned should have noticed the danger signs preceding the collapse of a newly built rip rap stonewall on Bonifacio street which killed three people the other week.

Three kids die in cave-in.


TOGON, Benguet - They did not know it, but last Thursday was the last day of school and life - for three sixth-grade students of the Pacalso Elementary school in Bua, Itogon, Benguet. Divina Ponce 13, June Andres 15 and Laconsay Ba- lanang, age unknown, were buried alive in a cave-in where they were reportedly digging for lime stone reportedly at the direction of a school teacher.

Landslide Victims


LANDSLIDE VICTIMS - They came in droves, lugging their shovels and picks, not to take part in another gold rush, but to help recover the bodies of seven people buried alive in a landslide brought on by typhoon "Aring". The last of the seven bodies was recovered only after four days of intensive digging by the townsfolk. The landslide victims of Teng-ab, Bontoc, Mt. Typhoon leaves two dead, millions in damages


BAGUIO CITY - Typhoon Miding claimed two persons and damaged property, crops and infrastructure projects worth millions of pesos after battering the city, Benguet and nearby provinces for two days. The two victims, Mila de Castro and her younger sister, Renee Wee, were buried alive together with Mila's husband, Philip de Castro, when their house was crushed by a landslide along Military Cut-off Wednesday night.

Landslides Bury Houses in Various City Sectors


Fifteen persons were confirmed dead while 31 were injured in separate landslides that hit the city last Friday and yesterday morning. Out of the fatalities, 12 are victims of a big landslide at Aurora Hill where 50 persons are believed still under a mass of soil and wrecked houses. One fatality was reported at a landslide at the Hilltop Market pros near the Hangar Building and two more persons were killed in another slide at the entrance of P. Burgos street.
